This book uses an interdisciplinary approach to explain the origin of and possible solutions to many different occlusal problems. Dr. Peter E. Dawson guides the reader along the way providing balanced explanations of theory and technique. He also debunks many popular misconceptions through practical discussion of their origins and the deficiencies of the arguments behind them. Different sides of many philosophies are presented while guiding the reader to the most functional and esthetic solution to various occlusal situations. Hundreds of full-color photographs, illustrations, and diagrams show aspects of the masticatory system, the epidemiology of occlusal problems, and procedures for finding the ideal occlusion. Whether the reader is a general dentist or a specialist, they will find this book applicable to their treatment methods and philosophies.
Contemporary Fixed Prosthodontics, 4th Edition is a comprehensive, user-friendly text that offers dental students and practitioners an excellent opportunity to understand the basic principles of fixed prosthodontics. This text provides a strong foundation in basic science, followed by practical step-by-step clinical applications
Prosthetic Dentistry is concerned with the application
of the physical and biological sciences and the
acquisition of manual skills. We cannot stress too
strongly the importance of understanding the
reasons underlying the choice of materials and
techniques, and it has been our intention to rationalize
the procedures described. These are, of course,
other techniques which may be equally effective
and, providing the student has a clear idea of the
objective in view, an understanding of the functions
and structure of the tissues of the oral cavity, and
knowledge of the properties of the materials which
he is using, he should be in a position to use his
manual skills to the optimum. Knowing \'how\'
without knowing \'why\' limits the dentist to slavishly
copying methods which may be inappropriate to the
needs of the particular case.
The present text was developed from notes
prepared for our students and we are grateful to
many of our colleagues who in the course of using
these notes in the clinic have made useful suggestions
for their amendment. We would like to
acknowledge our indebtedness to those distinguished
teachers who have moulded our thoughts
Principles of Removable Complete Prosthodontics - Advanced Clinical Course

Univ. Dental Hospital of Manchester, UK. Guide to the principles of complete denture construction. Illustrated and practical, this text includes a range of procedures in detail so the dentist can apply the best treatment measure to a specific clinical problem. Illustrations are in full color.
Teeth are involved in the functions of mastication and speech and strongly influence appearance. When they are lost,
it is a tribute to the skills of dentists and technicians that complete dentures act successfully in so many cases. Today,
with lower levels of edentulousness, complete denture prosthetics appears a less significant part of dental practice.
This is not the case. While fewer conventional complete dentures are being made, the increasing longevity of the
population associated with our inability to ‘cure’ alveolar resorption, means that their complexity has increased.
Further, the scope of complete denture prosthetics has expanded and the quality of life of many of our edentulous
patients has been improved as implant techniques have been introduced and applied. I suspect that now, of all
aspects of dental practice, complete denture prosthetics is most firmly based on an understanding of underlying
physical, anatomical, and surgical principles, and puts greatest demands on clinical and communication skills.
